Making a Difference Through Community Projects

At Go Make A Difference (GoMAD), we believe in empowering communities through sustainable development projects. Our volunteers play a crucial role in creating lasting change by engaging in hands-on initiatives that improve health, education, and livelihoods in Tanzania. Getting involved in our projects also has a big impact on volunteers. One volunteer said. I went to Africa to change it and I found that Africa changed me.

Our Projects

Volunteers at GoMAD have the opportunity to be directly involved in impactful community projects, making a tangible difference in people's lives.

  • Bringing joy, education, and encouragement to children is at the heart of what we do. Whether it’s running a kids’ club, helping with Sunday school projects, or organizing a sports day, volunteers play an active role in creating fun and meaningful experiences for local children.

  • Access to clean and safe sanitation is critical for health and hygiene. Volunteers construct new toilet facilities in schools and communities, helping to reduce the spread of disease and improve overall well-being. These facilities provide dignity, privacy, and safety, particularly for girls in school, ensuring they don't miss out on education due to a lack of proper sanitation.

  • Environmental sustainability is a key part of our work. Through our tree planting program, volunteers help restore ecosystems, prevent soil erosion, and support a greener future. We work in partnership with local farmers and village communities who benefit financially from the project.  This initiative also provides long-term benefits such as shade, improved air quality, and sustainable resources for local communities.

  • One of our most popular and impactful projects, the Goat Programme, provides families with Irish dairy goats, offering a sustainable source of nutrition and income. Volunteers help build sturdy, raised goat sheds to help protect the animals from snakes and diseases , ensuring their health and productivity. The programme also includes a breeding initiative, allowing families to sell goat kids for additional income.

  • Clean water access is life-changing for communities. Volunteers work to build and install water tanks, providing safe and sustainable water sources to homes and schools. These tanks reduce the risk of waterborne diseases and eliminate the need for long journeys to fetch water, allowing families to focus on education and work instead.

  • Volunteers have the unique opportunity to visit and support a community where some people are living with the after effects of leprosy , bringing compassion, friendship, and practical help such as food to those affected by leprosy. Our focus is on reducing stigma, improving living conditions, and providing much-needed assistance to people who are often marginalized by society.

  • Many girls in Tanzania miss school due to a lack of menstrual health education and resources. Volunteers help run workshops on menstrual hygiene, providing reusable sanitary kits and educating girls on how to manage their periods safely and with dignity. These sessions help break taboos, improve school attendance, and empower young women.

  • GoMAD supports local medical initiatives by  providing basic healthcare support, and educating communities on disease prevention. Volunteers with medical experience or students considering a career in medicine  can assist  people in remote villages to access medical care. All our volunteers can help by raising awareness , supporting local health teams, and learning about tropical medicine.
